This ARP 154-4005 SBF Head Stud Kit is for 289-302, 5.0L with Windsor head, M-6049-J302 SVO, M-6049-L302 GT40-style, and also AFR 185 as well as Edelbrock aluminum heads with 1/2″ holes.
This set comes complete with 10 long and 10 short studs, hex nuts and hardened washers. Manufactured from 8740 Chromoly Steel, ARP heat-treats these studs in-house to 190,000 psi tensile strength. Thread rolling after heat-treat creates a fastener that has threads 2000% stronger than others!
Includes 1/2″ to 7/16″ insertable reducer washers for heads with 1/2″ bolt holes.

STUDS vs. BOLTS
Virtually every top professional engine builder relies on ARP head studs for their all-out competition powerplants, and for good reason!
Heres why: when you use bolts to secure the head, the fastener is actually being twisted while its being torqued to the proper reading. Accordingly, the bolt is reacting to two different forces simultaneously.
Studs also provide more accurate and consistent torque loading. Using studs ensures easier engine assembly, and proper alignment of both the cylinder head and gasket.
Install a stud in a relaxed mode never crank it in tightly using a jammed nut. Always install the stud hand tight! Then, when applying torque to the nut, the stud will stretch only on the vertical axis.
