This ARP 234-4601 SBC Head Stud Kit is sold as a set of 34, and comes with undercut studs and parallel-ground hardened washers. ARP manufactures all studs from 8740 Chromoly Steel, heat-treated in-house to 190,000 psi tensile strength, and precision J-form threads rolled after heat-treat to create a fastener that has threads 2000% stronger than others!

STUDS vs. BOLTS
Virtually every top professional engine builder relies on ARP head studs for their all-out competition powerplants, and for good reason!
Heres why: when you use bolts to secure the head, the fastener is actually being twisted while its being torqued to the proper reading. Accordingly, the bolt is reacting to two different forces simultaneously.
Studs also provide more accurate and consistent torque loading. Using studs ensures easier engine assembly, and proper alignment of both the cylinder head and gasket.
Install a stud in a relaxed mode never crank it in tightly using a jammed nut. Always install the stud hand tight! Then, when applying torque to the nut, the stud will stretch only on the vertical axis.
